THOUGHTS…
After just finishing Victoria Aveyard’s first installment to her Red Queen series (for the THIRD time I may add), I was pleasantly transported into the world she had created that was in it’s own way, reminiscent to The Hunger Games mixed with a little of Cinder and a dash of A Court of Thorns and Roses. The plot consists of a girl who grows up having very little and is forced into a world of elites, kingdoms, and evil rulers. I will be giving away SPOILERS, so feel free to stop or continue on reading as I explain my opinion of this harrowing – but fantastically written – literary escape.
- “PRAISE”: Victoria Aveyard does a magnificent job of creating a brilliant setting for her readers to thoroughly enjoy; while reading I became suddenly lost among fiction in a matter of seconds. Once I got more towards the end of the novel, I very much loved the fact that “the girl doesn’t always get the prince” and “not every prince chooses the girl”, it was incredibly refreshing because I had not come across a book in a while where the guy did not fall head over heels in the end for the girl and vice versa.
- “OKAY WHAT”: THE BETRAYAL. A quote that resurfaced quite a few times throughout Red Queen was, “anyone can betray anyone” and it was a phrase that stayed true until the very end. When Aveyard wrote of Prince Mave’s and Queen Elara’s betrayal to the King of Norta and Mave’s older brother, Prince Cal, she set a scene that was hard to read through, not because it was poorly written, but because IT HURT TOO MUCH.
Overall, Red Queen was a hell of an adventure in all of the BEST ways. You will have to read to find out what made my heart sink in on itself and made my eyes sting with hot tears all throughout the novel and I highly recommend that you do find out because it was a glorious read, (might I remind you that I read it THREE times).
“Rise red as the Dawn” fellow book lovers!

P.S. I am currently starting book two of the Red Queen series and I am very excited about it! See if you can catch up (or keep up) with me as I make my way through this wonderful series; a review on Glass Sword should be coming up shortly.
Stay lovely! xx
